We are Socially Networked installation at the Euphrat Museum of Art

We are Socially Networked was a collaborative installation in the form of a social network diagram by me and my students from Nimitz Elementary School, in Sunnyvale, which was on display April - June 2011, in the Come On Down! Project Area, at the Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College in Cupertino. This project took the experience of art-making beyond the classroom’s walls, inviting the youth to look at the intersection of art, technology and life in Silicon Valley. Nimitz Elementary School students worked with me as part of the Euphrat Museum’s acclaimed Arts & Schools Program and the project was connected to my Artist of the Year Award, which I received from the Fine Arts Commission in City of Cupertino, in August 2010.

Students from Nimitz School (3rd – 5th grade) viewed my Mediated Senses series mixed-media prints and talked about its content and visual elements. I printed technological icons and images on a few pages using silkscreen, then the students drew and collaged their own artworks around my hand-printed images; they juxtaposed environmental images, and/or digital technology gadgets, logos, or devices. On exhibition also was two of my artworks from the series, exploring technological gadgets, the Internet and social networking applications and their impact on our environments, behavior, and physical environments.

Below are images from the classroom at Nimitz School and the final installation at the Euphrat Museum of Art:
